Copolymers of (a) styrene, (meth)acrylonitrile or a low alkyl (meth)acrylate and (b) a polyalkyleneetheritaconate macromonomer with an equiv. wt. of nearly equals 100-300 per OH gp., 2 OH gps/mol and one c=c gp. per mol., or copolymer of (c ) vinyl(idene)chloride or vinyl acetate and (d) a polyslkyleneethermaleate- or fumarate macromonomer with an equiv. wt. of Nearly equals 100-3000 per OH gp., 2 OH gps/mol and one C=C gp./mol., are made by (1) mixing monomers (a) or (c) and macromonomers (b) of (d) in a mol ratio of 1:5 to 1:50, with a chain transfer agent and a free radical catalyst, at a temp below the decomposition temp. of the catalyst, and (2) heating the mixt. under such conditions of temp. and pressure that the catalyst is activated and copolymsn. occurs. Prods. are polyol resins which pref. have a mol. wt. of 500-7000 and are liquid at room temp. and which are esp. useful for the prodn. of rigid or flexible polyurethane (foams) which improved physical and chemical resistance properties.
