Myrcene (I) and 6-isopropenyl-3-methylene-1,8-decadiene (II) are made by polymn of isoprene (III) in triethylamine as solvent. (IV), with a sec amind additive (V) in the presence of an alkali metal catalyst (VI) and keeping the temp. at below 50 degrees C. Higher selectivity and yield of (I) and (II) are obtd at these temps. previous methods having mainly produced 2,6-dimethyl-2,6-octadiene,2,7-dimethyl-2,7-octadiene.
