A capillary tube for chromatographic sepn. in the liq. phase is made of a transparent material, e.g. glass or clear plastic, and has an internal dia. of 0.2-2.00 mmn. The tube is filled with a dry, particulate solid material whose average particle size does not exceed 20% of the internal dia. of the tube. The ratio of the outside dia. to the dia. is not 2:1 and the length is typically 15 cm. Precisely defined Rf values are obtained, the development takes place quickly, and the constituents of the sepd. sample can be recovered and subjected to further test work.
