An optimising adaptive control system for the prodn. speed of textile machinery determines the optimum speed based on data acquired from the prodn. process and from a programme which defines the desired target. This speed is automatically maintained within certain limits. If the expected value of one or of all system parameter changes, the optimum prodn. speed is automatically readjusted to suit. The optimum is reassessed for periods less than several shifts so that the extra prodn. and lower costs result in more profitable prodn. The recording of all information provides valuable data about prodn. quality and maintenance. The system speeds up the introduction of new processes and/or materials.
