INEXPENSIVE PURIFICATION OF UREAWASTE STREAMSABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREUrea is destroyed in aqueous waste streams containingvarious anions and cations plus urea by contacting the streamwith a cation exchange resin, then reacting the resultingstream with nitric oxide, nitrous acid or a nitrite salt toconvert the urea to nitrogen, carbon dioxide and water andtreating the resulting stream with an anion exchange resin.A pure aqueous stream is obtained which does not adverselyaffect the environment and which may be recycled to a plantas fresh water resulting in large monetary savings in freshwater cost.
