The device indicates the position of a target in particular of a submarine using ultrasonics. A dual input receiver (2) receivers on two distinct channels the signals coming from the target, e.g. echoes of pulses reflected by the target. The instantaneous phase difference between signals received by the two channels is measured and used to determine the orientation of the target. An oscilloscope tube (6) is used to display the information. Range information is applied to one set of plates and phase difference information to the other.
