Hydrodesulphurising, hydrocracking - in two stages using countercurre hydrogen

Hydrocracking and/or hydrodesulphurisation of heavy hydrocarbon feeds in which (a) feed descends through a first catalytic zone (below the admission point of the feed) with a counter-current of hydrogen; and (b) the thus-produced lower b.pt. hydrocarbons rise to a catalytic zone above the fed admission point. Process has improved selectivity, nearly all the feed being converted to lower-boiling liquids, with little gas formation.
