Title cpds are of formula (I) where R1 = H or -COOR4 R2 = H, OH, OCH2COOR4,OCH(CH3)COOR4 or -OC(CH3)2 COOR4 R3 = OCH2 R3=OCH2COOR4; OCH(CH3) COOR4, or -OC(CH3)2 COOR4 R4 = H,C1-C3 alkyl, Na, K or Li. In an example, 40 g 2-ethoxy-carbonyl-7-hydroxy isoflavone, 26g ethyl bromoacetate, 35.6g K2CO3, and 400 ml dry acetone were refluxed together for 5 hrs to give 48g (I) R1 = -COOC2H5, R2=H, R3=OCH2COOCH2H5, mpt 88 degrees C.
