Liquid-liquid extraction process - for sepg yttrium values from the lanthanides

The light lanthanide elements are sepd. by extraction from an aq. nitrate soln with an org soln of a quat ammonium nitrate, and the heavy lanthamides, subsequently removed from the aq. soln by extraction with an org. soln. of a quat. ammonium thiocyanate. Yttrium cpds. esp. Y oxide is useful in phosphors for colour television tubes and lighting prodts, in electronics and related equipment.
