The pulsatory echos from the brain, heart, arteries or other parts of the body are examined, recorded and treated by ultrasonic emission and analysis of the beam reflected or transmitted. This is divided into a number of channels corresponding to different depths of penetration, and the signal recorded among the physical data. An amplifier can be included for signals of lesser amplitude than normal. A visual or audible repeater can be provided, beating in synchronism with the pulsations, so that patients can be permanently monitored, together with an alarm operating when they cease. Disappearance of the pulsations can be indicated by a flat tracing, showing that death has taken place.
