The article is produced by applying an ageing and high temp. hardening treatment to a high alloy workpiece of compsn. (wt%) 1C, 0.5-25 or 20-60 of Ni and/or Co, 9-30 of Cr and/or V, bal. Fe. Pref. the casting is formed into a workpiece which is heated in sections to 450-980 degrees C, pref. at 1050-1350 degrees C followed by heating at 850-950 degrees C until these sections have changed to a magnetic structure after which the workpiece is cooled in a magnetic field. It is then heated in sections, which are required to have non-magnetic properties, to a temp. range of 1000 degrees to m.p. and cooled sufficiently rapidly so as to prevent the formation of a magnetic structure. A low temp. hardening treatment may be finally be applied.
