Compressed air jet returns light-weight balls for billiards type amusement machines into play via a vertical tube (1) curving over into a return ramp (3) without any manual ball contact. The vertical tube has a valved compressed air nozzle (2) axially located at its base and immediately beneath a lateral orifice in the tube wall: this orifice receiving out of play balls one by one from a lower collection area. The tube and ball inlet are dimensionally slightly greater than the ball diameter as is the distance between nozzle and the foot of the tube. The return ramp forms parts of a magazine from which the balls may be freed by a player. The balls in the lower collection area are initially drawn into the tube due to the vacuum created by the intermittently operated nozzle.
