The bucket consists of a base (1) and two sides (2) together with a leading edge (3) and teeth (4). Near the leading edge the interior of the bucket contains a shaft (9) on which are mounted paddle blades (17). Outside the bucket the shaft has gear wheels mounted on it (13). At the top and the outside of the bucket there are two spindles (11) which are attached to hydraulic motors. The spindles also have gear wheels (14). The top and bottom gear wheels on either side of the bucket are joined by drive chains (15) which contain cutting teeth (16). The chains and the paddles loosen the soil to be excavated.
