Monitoring dissolved organic matter in effluents or natural waters - by measuring the absorption peak for tyrosine

Content of organic material in a solvent, e.g. a natural water or an effluent is measured by (a) continuously passing a part of the soln. through a transparent container in which it is irradiated with radiation of wavelength ca 280 mm; (b) the measurement of the quantity of the radiation absorbed by the proportional to the amt. of the tyrosine present in the soln. in the container; (c) the conversion of the absorption measurement into a value representative of the quantity of dissolved organic matter in the soln.
