Buried intruder detection flare - has core emerging partially on removal of sealing igniter plug by trip wire

The flare comprises a hollow body, open at the top, and containing an illuminating core. The core is secured in the body by a sealing plug (5) and incorporating a fuse (7) ignited by trapping devices e.g. a trip wire (8). When this happens a suitable device, e.g. a spring (6) partially ejects the core (2) from the ground, and other devices in the bore of the body (1) e.g. shoulders (3, 4) maintain the flare in the partially ejected position as it burns. The shoulders can function by arresting the collar on the base of the core, against which the spring acts.
