A copying machine with a photoconductive web lying over a drum-shaped guide with its ends attached to the drum, arranged to rotate in a frame, and with charging, exposure, and transfer stations, for electrostatic copying; the drum has a single narrow slot through which both ends of the photoconductive strip are taken to its interior and is sufficiently elastic for it to be compressed to hold the ends firmly in position in the slot. A spring, hooked in lugs in the drum bore, retains a certain tension on the material in the gap.
