Timber drying with varying rate of dehumidifying - and heating to suit timber humidity and prevent distortion

A method of drying timber and other hygroscopic matls. utilises circulating air, only a portion of this is dehumidified then remixed with the remainder, which has been reheated. Pref. the heat input is automatically adjusted to maintain equilibrium between the evaporating capacity of the air, the evaporative potential of the humidity in the wood, and the water removed. The proportion dehumidified is pref. about one-third of the total, and is varied to suit the matl. The sudden shock of excessive drying at the start is avoided, thus preventing warping and cracking due to a dry surface, and moist interior. Instead the dryness of the air can be progressively increased.
