Air-permeable synthetic leather - comprising porous polymeric layer secured to the pile fibres of a fibrous substrate

An artificial leather is formed by pref. applying a polymeric emulsion to fibres projecting from the surface of a fibrous substrate to form a porous layer attached to and extending between the fibres, the pores (e.g., 900 ) in layer being produced in the regions between the fibres, and the surface of the porous layer being smooth and resembling a grained leather. The artificial leather is highly permeable to air and resistant to abrasion and to cracking at low temps.
