2'-Substd 2- and 3- thienyl phosphine oxides prepn - from thienyl phosphine oxides by Friedel-crafts reaction, use as polycondensn monomers

The noval 21-substd. (2-thienyl) phosphine oxides are of formulae (I)-(III): and the novel corresponding (3-thienyl) cpds. are of formulae (IV) and (V): (where R is alkyl or aryl; Z is COOR'.- -R' or - -R'R", R' is H or alkyl and R" is H, alkyl or aryl). The cpds. are used as monomers in polycondensation reactions. Specif. claimed cpds. include 5-phenyl acetyl-bis(2-thienyl) phosphine oxide; and phenyl-bis(5-carboxy-2-thienyl) phosphine oxide, etc.
