The fan housing supports the motor housing and motor which drives the fan provided with radial blades. A circular heating element surrounds the fan. Air is sucked through the aperture blown outwards by the fan over the heating element and out through the vents which direct the air outwards and downwards at an angle with the vertical, preferably between 20 deg. and 45 deg. When the dryer is held above the head the angle of emergence of the air causes it to be sucked back between the dryer and the hair and maintain a continuous circulation.
