System for moving boats up water slopes - uses currents generated by barrier movement to thrust boats sideways in basin

The system moves boats between the ends of a sloping lock with upstream and downstream gates and basins at each end, joined by a sloping ramp. A transverse barrier travels up and down the ramp, retaining an amount of water sufficient to float a boat. The boat is thrust sideways into the path of the barrier (5) by currents of water emanating from openings (15) in the basin sides, these currents being generated by the movement of the barrier on the ramp (7). The currents can be produced from the water between the barrier and a closable gate (22) at the side of the ramp where this joins one of the basins.
