The device has a threaded shank with a pair of tapered projecting fingers (1) which may be inserted into a hole through a pair of panels (9), (10) joined by a sealing layer (11). The shank is surrounded by a cylinder (6) which has an internal guide element (8). When the nut (7) is screwed towards the cylinder to which it is attached by a helical spring the guide element head (12) moves between the fingers so as to move them apart to engage the sides of the hole through the panels and obtain the correct position. Unscrewing the nut removes the head (12), allowing the fingers to be removed from the hole and repositioned in a further hole.
