The voltage regulation circuit is designed to increase the efficiency of techniques using capacitor spark or over-voltage protection separate circuits are employed during charge and discharge such that different circuit constants can be effected. One side of the regulator (16) is connected to the alternator field winding (10) and the other to the accumulator (17) through a key switch. The control circuit employs a relay having separate voltage and current windings, the supply to which is controlled by a diode-resistor network in parallel with the breaker contacts. An impedance diode (26) is in series with a capacitor (23) which discharges through a resistance (27) which may be in parallel with the diode or capacitor or earthed from a common point between the two.
