Separation detection and quantitive measurement of T3.H and 14CO2 in dry or fresh contaminated samples by incineration in an O2 or 3O enriched O2 atmosphere within an electrically heated quartz furnace with CoO2 or MnO2 or Pt catalysts. The tritiated water content of the combustion gases is separated in a low temp. ethylene-glycol cooled column and the 14CO2 by an organic based absorber column with each column incorporating a collector flask for the separated isotopes. The flasks are removed and taken to a purging and preparation station prior to scintillation measurement.
