Quick action safety relay with direct or alternating current coil - uses air cored disc shaped drive coil with coaxial disc shaped armature coil

A quick action switching system such as a relay or safety trip has a main coil connected to a current source which produces a magnetic field attracting an armature to operate the moving contacts. This drive coil is wound in the form of a disc and has an air core. The armature is also made up as a second air cored coil with a disc shape and mounted on the same axis as the drive coil. The two are separated by a small gap and the armature is free to move into the drive coil. The dimensions of the two coils are identical and are connected to the same source. The start and finish of the two winding are opposite to each other.
