The resultant paste is extruded to small catalyst balls. The number of operations is reduced, use of nitric acid is avoided, excess impregnation agent is not required, selectivity is improved, Cr2O3 is uniformly distributed on the alumina, time required is reduced, and if clay binders are present, the introduction of substances altering the catalytic properties is obviated.
