Storage tank filling from road tanker - cut-off and by-pass valves prevent spillage and overflow

An arrangement for filling an underground storage tank (1) from a road tanker (2) includes a flexible tube (3) between the tanker and a socket housed inside a chamber (6) flush with the ground level, this being connected by a tube (5) below ground level, terminating in a feed tube (8) passing through the manhole at the top of the tank and immersed in the liquid when the tank is full, this tube incorporating valve (7) controlled by a float (7a). When the tank is full, this float shuts off the immersed tube and the operator closes the valve (4) at the tanker discharge part. The operator then raises a lever (9) housed inside the manhole, and the feed tube (3) is then purged by travel of the trapped liquid into the storage tank liquid (15) through a by pass incorporated in the feed tube. Alternatively the by pass may be operated by a hydraulic activator.
