Human or animal corpses are preserved by making a vitaneous incision to uncover a principal artery of the thorax, the neck or a limb, esp. femoral, carotid or aorta, pref. with a rpe-wash perfusion in the artery and out through a venous catheter using a luke warm salified serum then perfusing at a press according to the state of the arteries and the age of the subject, pref. 0.1-0.5 kg/cm2 about 0.75-1.5 1 per 10 kg. body wt. of an aq. saline soln. contg. per litre 0.05-0.15 1 of aq. aldehyde soln, 0.025-0.075 1 of an alcohol, 25-75 g of alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt of a mineral acid, 15-45 g of a polyol or derivative thereof and 5-15 g of a phenol. Bodies are preserved without the production of decomposition liquid prods and much greater densities can be achieved in a necropolis than in normal burial grounds.
