Process for recovering high-purity oxidised coenzyme A (I) from crude (I) soln. comprises (a) contacting the soln. with a water-insoluble anion exhanger to adsorb (I); (b) treating the exchanger with a reducing agent to convert (I) to its reduced form; (c) washing until excess reducing agent and thiol cpds. other than (I) are removed from the resin; (d) treating with an oxidising agent to convert (I) to the oxidised form; (e) washing until excess oxidising agent and other impurities are removed and (f) eluting to recover oxidised (I). To prepare pure reduced (I) the above procedure is followed up to stage (e) but then the resin is treated again with reducing agent, washed to remove excess reducing agent and then eluted. (I) is an essential factor in the biosynthesis of sugars, carbohydrates, steroids and carotenoids. Process is simple and convenient giving a product free from (I) analogues.
