Recovering prostaglandin A2 and its ethers and esters - from Plexaura homomalla by ether extraction

PGA2 and its derivs. of formula (I) (R = H or CH3; R degrees = H or CH CO) are prepd. by extracting Plexaura homomalla with an ether of formula (II) R'OR" (R' and R" are same or different is not 8C alkyl, the total no. of C atoms in (II) being 4-10). Pref. (II) are diisopropyl ether and 2-isopropoxypropane. Using these water-immiscible ethers as extractants, the extraction can be carried out under neutral conditions and yields increased by 2-4 times.
