The externally fitting sliding window and shutter casement unit is fixed to the external facade of a building covering an internally timber lined window opening, and incorporates separate glazed and shuttered sashes, both sashes sliding on common upper and lower rails. The seal between frame members and the wall facade is arranged so that wind pressure augments the seal, and the glazed panel when open slides behind the shutter for protection. The design is simple for a casement of this type and it is suggested that the window opening be lined with glass or stainless steel to diffuse and augment natural lighting.
