Heating elements are mounted inside a reflector suspended by a chain at the required distance above the chickens. The reflector has sloping sides, diverging downwards, to reflect the heat down and is made with double walls, an inner wall with the elements and an outer wall, with spacers between and a gap along the bottom edges. Heat absorbed by the inner walls causes the air in the space to expand and be expelled downwards. This air is replenished through holes or louvres in the walls. A thermostat is mounted centrally, with the bulb at the level of the chickens, to control temperatures.
