Seals for spindles of high pressure valves - combines chevron seals with O-rings for pressures above 1250 bars

The seal between the valve spindle (5) and valve body (1) is retained by the flange (9). The seal consists of a variety of chevron type rings (3, 4, 6) of suitable material to withstand the operating temperature. The outer sealing member consists of the sleeve (7) provided with two inner grooves and one outer groove for O-ring seals. This arrangement gives the advantages of the better sealing properties of O-rings but since there is a reduction in pressure along the spindle due to the effectiveness of the chevron seals the danger of the O-rings failing by extrusion is eliminated. For certain applications additional chevron rings may be fitted outside the O-rings.
