1375989 Converting reciprocating motion into rotary motion R P BOWDEN and J A BOWDEN 12 March 1973 [11 Dec 1971] 57672/71 Heading F2K In a pressure indicating device axial movement of a plate 1 along its principal axis against a return spring (not shown) by an external pressure source (not shown) is transmitted into rotary movement of a pointer 4 about an axis which is the same as or different from the principal axis of the plate 1, the axial movement of the plate 1 being transmitted to the pointer 4 through a quadrant 3 pivoting about an axis at right angles to the principal axis of the plate 1, the movement of the plate 1 being transmitted to the quadrant through a pivoted lever 2 which bears on the quadrant 3 and on a cam i.e. ramp on the plate 1 which ramp is inclined to the principal axis of the plate 1, wherein the rate of angular rotation of the pointer 4 can be varied in respect of the axial movement of the plate 1 by means of the pivoted lever 2 whose pivot is adjustable in a plane such as the same plane as, or a plane parallel to, the axes of the plate 1 and/or the pointer 4. By adjusting the pivot point of the lever 2 between positions a and b (Figs. 1 and 2) the lever 2 bears at different points on the ramp to give an increased or reduced movement of the pointer (Figs. 1 and 2 respectively) whereby a specific angular rotation of the pointer 4 may be maintained against a variation of external pressures acting on the plate 1.
