1397361 Polyalkylene glycol-polyphosphonates and -polyphosphites STAUFFER CHEMICAL CO 17 July 1973 [21 Aug 1972] 33960/73 Heading C2P [Also in Division C3] A polyalkylene glycol alkyl or haloalkyl polyphosphonate, having an acid number in water of below 15 mg. of KOH per gram, of the formula in which R is polyalkylene glycol residue wherein the alkylene group contains 2 to 20 carbon atoms, RSP1/SP is alkyl or haloalkyl and n is 2 to 100, is prepared by heating a polyalkylene glycol alkyl or haloalkyl polyphosphite of the formula in the presence of an Arbuzar rearrangement catalyst at from 160-230‹ C. The examples describe the preparation of poly/diethylene glycol methyl- or ethyl-phosphonate) and poly- (dipropylene glycol methyl phosphonate) using methyl iodide as the catalyst. Example 5 describes the preparation of poly-(diethylene glycol methylphosphite) from diethylene glycol and trimethyl phosphite.
