1401236 Surface treatment of polymers UNION CARBIDE CORP 20 Oct 1972 [21 Oct 1971] 48371/72 Heading C3P Ethylene-acrylic acid copolymers are surface treated with a solution of a base so as to convert up to 2À5 weight per cent of the total carboxyl groups in the polymer to the salt, the surface carboxyl groups being converted so as to prevent adhesion between polymer particles, for example during storage. In examples pellets of ethylene-acrylic acid copolymer are treated with aqueous solutions of sodium and potassium hydroxide, ammonia, N,N-diethylamine and dimethylethanolamine.
