The arrangement permits the average velocity of the cylinder to approach the upper cylinder velocity set for correct machine operation. The segment gear comprises two spaced legs, joined by a mesh 2c and pivoted at 10. A bell-crank lever 3 is pivoted at shaft 9 between the legs. One end is pivoted by a shaft attached to one end of the link 7, the other is pivoted at 12 between the legs of an arm 4 which is pivoted at 13. At the dead centre positions the shaft 8 rotates an angle /3 about shaft 9, so that the segment moves an additional angle #. This enables the rack to maintain a high velocity in the proximity of the dead centres.
