The tube through which the body is moved has a lower part 1 coated or formed of a material the surface of which can retain a high intensity of electrostatic charge, whereas the top half 2 of the tube is made of a material which allows electrostatic lines of force to pass straight through. The surface of the body is such as to be capable of retaining a High intensity of electrostatic charge. The body may be a ball of ice 3, or a volume of oil with a surface coating of ice or other easily removable solid material. Alternatively, the body may be a train travelling within the tube.
