1534766 Optical scanning OPTISCHE INDUSTRIE DE OUDE DELFT NV 27 Jan 1976 [3 Feb 1975] 03153/76 Heading G2J [Also in Division H4] A scanner for use in an aircraft comprises a reflecting rotor 1 having at least three mirrors parallel with the rotation axis 2 and forming a regular polygon in cross-section normal to said axis and an optical system for focusing reflected radiation on to a detector 9, the system comprising two mirrors 4 and 5 defining equally sized apertures and so positioned that a respective scanning mirror directs radiation into first one then the other aperture, and an optical switch 3 for passing radiation from alternate apertures to the detector. Using three scanning mirrors as shown each mirror scans two adjacent strips during rotation through 120 degrees Figs. 1b-1d (not shown) whereas using 5 scanning mirrors Figs. 2a-2d (not shown) each mirror, during rotation of 72 degrees, scans a first half of a strip by directing radiation through one aperture and scans the other half by directing radiation through the other aperture.
