1521805 Agglomerating latices MONSANTO CO 19 Feb 1976 [20 Feb 1975 (2)] 6554/76 Heading C3L A continuous process for agglomerating polymer latex comprises mixing the latex (12) with an aqueous solution of a water-soluble organic acid anhydride (10), the latex containing as emulsifier a salt of an organic acid having a lower ionization constant than the acid of the anhydride, passing the mixture through a perforated plate (14) to induce laminar flow, through a conduit (16) with a passage time sufficient to hydrolyze the anhydride to an extent sufficient to induce the required degree of agglomeration and thence into a low-shear zone (20) where an emulsifier or a basic emulsifier regenerator is added (22) to stabilise the agglomerated dispersion before removal through a flow mixing device (24).
