1512239 Laminated panels COLDSTREAM PRODUCTS OF CANADA Ltd 21 Aug 1975 [31 Oct 1974] 34746/75 Headings B5N and B5A A sandwich type panel comprising edge portions, two outer facing sheets and a core is produced by preforming the edge portions from a thermal insulation material consisting of foamed polyurethane compositions, assembling the edge portions and outer facing sheets into sandwich form with a cavity defined by the inner surfaces of the edge portions and facing sheets, placing the sandwich assembly in a press and introducing a thermal insulation material, e.g. a foamed polyurethane composition, into the cavity sufficient to substantially fill the cavity. The facing sheets may be of metal, e.g. aluminium or steel, plywood or fibreglass. The top and bottom surfaces of the edge portions and the outer facing sheets may be bonded together with an adhesive. The edge portions may be preformed in a shape adapted to fit an edge portion of an adjacent panel. A locking means may be provided in at least one of the preformed edge portions, such that it may be received by an edge portion of an adjacent panel to lock the assembled panels. The edge portions may be preformed in slabs in moulding apparatus 19 having dies 20 with clamp holders 21 upon which latching members are mounted transversely, the foamable polyurethane composition being introduced through injection ports 22 when the apparatus has been closed. A plurality of mitred slab portions of the required edge portion length may then be severed from the slab with a suitably angled blade moving across the slab width and the slab portions then sliced into a plurality of individual mitred edge portions by relative movement along the entire length of the severed slab portions between the mitred slab portions and a plurality of parallel blades.
