1519045 Sealing structures DYNAMIT NOBEL AG 2 Sept 1975 [3 Sept 1974] 36176/75 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions B5 and El] A sealing structure for application to an exposed surface of a building or civil engineering construction comprises a synthetic thermoplastic or plastic sheet having embedded therein a fabric reinforcement and a plurality of zones which impart to the sheet a greater reinforcing effect than the remainder of the fabric extending in strips lying across the fabric in one direction or in two directions disposed at right angles to one another, the thermoplastic material on the two sides of the fabric being the same, but differing insofar as they contain different contents of stabiliser and/or filler. The fabric reinforcement may be completely embedded in the sealing sheet and the sealing sheet may be of soft polyvinyl chloride. The reinforcing zones may be obtained by a greater concentration of filaments of the fabric and/or by thicker filaments than those found elsewhere in the fabric reinforcement. The thicker filaments may be formed from a material different from that from which the remainder of the fabric reinforcement is made. Alternatively, the reinforcing zones may be constituted by pre-formed strips of a further material such as polyester, polyamide, polyethylene, polypropylene or polycarbonate or of metal. The metal may be ferromagnetic. The material may be made by applying a first plastisol of a synthetic plastics material e.g. polyvinyl chloride, polyisobutylene, and butyl rubber to a continuous support at ambient temperature, laying on the plastisol while it remains in an ungelled state the reinforcing fabric, heating the assembly to 160-200‹C to partially gel the plastisol and bond the plastisol with the fabric, applying a second plastisol of a synthetic plastics material which is the same as the first, but differing in the content of stabilizer and/or filler, heating the assembly to 160- 250‹C to effect substantially complete gelling of the two layers and removing the composite assembly thus formed from the continuous support.
