A centrifugal clutch consisting of an outer drum possessing a bore with a prescribed radius, the drum rotating round a shaft on which a monolithic rotor made of an elastic spring material is mounted. The rotor consists of a central hub joined by two curved spring section to two diametrically-opposed heavy section; in the idling position, the outer surfaces of the heavy sections are not in working contact with the bore of the drum but, when the rotor reaches a prescribed rotational speed, the outer surfaces of the heavy section engage with the bore of the drum, the resulting stress on the spring sections being below the fatigue limit of the latter. The rotor is pref. made of alloy cast iron with breaking strength 9100 kg/cm2, pref. of compsn. (by wr.) 3.1-3.7% C, 2.2-2.6% Si, 0.6-0.9% Mn, 0.15-0.35% Mo, 0.7-1.0% Ni, balance iron, with breaking strength 130,000 psi, elastic modulus 20,000,000 psi, Brinell hardness 311-390. Used for connecting a drive shaft to a driven shaft, e.g. linking an i.c. engine to a power driven tool, e.g. a chain saw. Clutch has very wide application, high reliability and long life. The rotor is cast in one piece.
