An impregnated support for the detection of sugars in body fluids esp. urine, comprises an absorbent matl. impregnated with a soln. of sugar oxidase, esp. glucose oxidase or galactose oxidase, a peroxidase, a chromogenic reagent, and cellulose acetophthalate (I). Used for diagnosis of diabetes. The test can be carried out in the presence of inhibitors such as ascorbic acid, creatinine, uric acid and glucouronic acid. In the absence of inhibitors, urinary glucose can be detected semi-quantitatively within the range 25-2000 mg/100 ml. In the presence of 20-100 mg/100 ml ascorbic acid, urinary glucose levels over 100 mg/100 ml can be detected.
