1458869 Zinc-smelting blast furnaces ISC SMELTING Ltd 5 May 1975 [13 May 1974] 21094/74 Heading F4B In a zinc-smelting blast furnace 1, the molten slag/gas contact at the bottom of the furnace is increased by blowing air downwardly into the slag pool through a plurality of tuyeres 4 at least the end sections of which are inclined at an angle in the range of 12 to 20 degrees to the horizontal. Preferably the end sections of the tuyeres are downwardly inclined at an angle of 15 to 16 degrees while the remaining lengths of the tuyeres are inclined at an angle of 12 degrees to the horizontal. A layer 5 of lead collects in the bottom of the furnace and a layer of slag 6 collects above the lead. The upper part of the furnace shaft is connected by a cross-over duct 2 to a conventional lead-splash condenser (not shown).
