Process for the emergency supply of air for combustion, necessary for heating a steam boiler feeding a steam turbine driving a compressor. The novelty is that when a breakdown in the normal air supply occurs, part of the gas or gas mixt. delivered by the compresser is removed and used as a propellant which sucks in the atmos. by an injection effect and thus provides the air for combustion required to heat the boiler. In the pref. defice, a branch-pipe fitted with a valve is provided on the compressor outlet pipe and the compressed gas is blown through a tuyere which sucks in air from the atmos. the resulting mixt. being fed into the air inlet on the boiler, valves being provided on both air inlets. Ensures a continuous supply of air to the boiler so that any breakdown in the usual supply cannot interfere with the continuous compression of gases or air supplied e.g. to a blast furnace.
