A central heating boiler using a heat recovery system has a conduit for conveying heating medium, e.g. a gas and air mixture between a hot zone and a colder zone, where the maximum amount of heat is applied before it leaves a heat exchange region by using refractory heat storage elements, which give up heat to the water either inside the chamber or immediately afterwards. These elements are in the path of the heating medium, beyond the tube conveying the water through the region so that heat is given up to the elements depending on their type of material and capacity, stored heat being progressively recovered by the water as it passes through a secondary heating channel branching from the main channel, passing through the storage elements.
