The ribbon may be buried in a single trench along the margin of a road, similar utilities service ribbons constructed in smaller size enabling the utility conduits to be tapped and led from the road to a consumer. Strips 15 and 16 may constitute a single strip folded longitudinally about one of the enclosed conduits. Conduit 17 may be a pipe for supplying gaseous fluid fuel, conduit 18 a coaxial cable for supplying television signals, conduit 19 an electrical conductor for telephone supplies and conduit 20 an electrical conductor for supplying electrical energy. The lower strip 15 may be of a bright yellow or orange colour to be immediately visible if uncovered in excavation.
