The system assembles the bricks etc. into a packet, the columns of which are formed by pairs of bricks spaced apart for half a brick length. The first layer consists of two sets, each of four bricks bearing against each other and lying across the columns, and the third of groups of two and four bricks bearing together and so on, to the desired packet height. To form a column, two bricks are placed together with their largest faces away from each other. In forming the layers, the outermost bricks always have their largest faces towards the outside. Sets of two bricks can be assembled with their largest surfaces in the same direction, but when two such sets are assembled together these surfaces face in opposite directions.
