摘要
An insert of refractory material is fixed to the base of a mould for casting steel blocks by (a) placing the inert in a depression formed in the centre of the surface of the base, so that a gap is formed between the walls of the depression and the insert, (b) placing a weight on the upper surface of the insert, this weight being provided with a flow path (I) for metal, (c) casting a molten joining metal of cast iron or steel into the gap via the flow path (I), and (d) allowing the joining metal to solidify in the gap. Rapid, economical fizing of the insert is achieved. The joint between the insert and the base has high strength and good thermal conductivity as a result of the use of the metal as joining material. The metal solidifies rapidly, and no drying time is necessary. High quality steel blocks are obtained. The insert protects the surface of the mould base during casting.
